He is incredibly talented. He manages to take time out of his busy schedule and devote time to his wonderful art. He has been applauded by the likes of Amitabh Bachchan, Sachin Tendulkar, John Chambers- Ex-CEO of Cisco and many more. I have been amazed every time he comes out with an art work. Here is a brief Interview with Sachin Sanghe.
Tell us a bit about your journey in the world micro sculpture art. How did it all start ?
Pencil sketches and paintings with water colours on paper were my favorites in childhood. I have always had this liking for artistic hobbies. I’ve used chalk as much as pen/pencil. Divider and Compass in my geometry box were my first carving tools.
Initially I was just carving simple structures/designs on chalk, making it hollow end to end. They were all just time pass activities; kind of make them, break them. Never bothered to preserve them safe. Later I learned carving alphabets. For the next one or two years, It was all just that – carving friends/relatives names on chalks and gifting them. It was fun always. As it was boring doing the same thing, I wanted to try something new. Attaching 2-3 chalks together and carving human face on it proved to be a wonderful idea. This went on for 2-3 years. There was a 5yr pause to this activity. I had become a Software Engineer when I resumed my unique hobby. I didn’t know it would be a brilliant life-changing move!!
How long does it take for you to come up with one piece of art ?
Min 6-8 hrs. Few of my artworks have taken 80 – 120 hrs.
You have been recognised by bigwigs like Amitabh Bachchan,Sachin Tendulkar, John Chambers. How does that feel ?
It seems so surreal! I’m extremely fortunate to have met the legends and gifted them my artworks. Recognition/appreciation is what an artist always craves for and when it comes from people like Sachin Tendulkar, Amitabh Bachchan and John Chambers, I feel I’m blessed!
Given that you are part of a software company, how do you manage to find time for your art ?
When you are passionate about something, you’ll definitely have time to pursue it.
What are the biggest challenges that you have faced ?
I’m a self-taught Artist; have learnt and improvised on my own. There were no biggest challenges as such in any way.
What advise would you like to give to upcoming artists ?
Everyone will have one or the other skills within. You have to know it and bring it on; don’t wait for someone to come and point out your skill.
Once it is known, start following it and NEVER STOP!
What has been your biggest learning so far ?
When you give your best in whatever you do, It gives back many things you never imagined. Life surprises you!
Do you remember where you got featured first ? What was it like ?
It was 3 yrs ago in the Bangalore edition of telugu daily SAKSHI. I was elated to see an article about me and my work with photos for the first time.
Which one of your art works is your favorite till date and why ?
Its difficult to pick one. A carving of mother with a baby, Hampi stone chariot, Taj Mahal, Dandi March statues among my favourites.
Can you name any artist whose work you admire ?
I admire Mr. Vilas Nayak, world’s leading speed painter. Contrary to my work, he does a portrait in less than 5min. I love Mr. Sudarshan Pattnaik’s Sand sculptures too.
What are your upcoming art works ?
Haven’t planned on my next one.
Who has been your biggest inspiration and why ?
I’m self-inspired. My last artwork will inspire me to do my next with much more precision and perfection.
